MIS CANCIONES FAVORITAS: HACE 35 AÑOS (1979-XVIII)

Continuamos con el segmento musical dedicado al año 1979, hace 35 años. Para el día de hoy, tendremos dos canciones de la siempre recordada cantante Olivia Newton-John, quien el viernes 26 de Setiembre estará cumpliendo 66 años.

1.-  A LITTLE MORE LOVE (Olivia Newton-John).-  Con el mega éxito del film “Grease” en 1978, Olivia Newton-John alcanzó la categoría de mega star en el mundo de la música. Pasada la efervescencia de “Grease”, el siguiente paso en la carrera musical de Olivia fue el álbum “TOTALLY HOT”, y en particular, el single “A Little More Love”. Recuerdo que aquí en nuestro medio, se comenzó a escuchar esta canción en las radios locales, a fines de 1978, pero alcanzó su mayor popularidad en el verano de 1979, difundiéndose ampliamente como “lo nuevo de Olivia Newton-John” en todas las programaciones musicales en las diferentes emisoras locales. El estilo era diferente a lo que se había escuchado de Olivia en “Grease”, incluso también era un cambio tanto en su estilo musical como en su imagen, dejando definitivamente atrás la imagen angelical y dulce de antaño para dar lugar a un estilo e imagen más sensual y sexy.

“A Little More Love” fue escrita y producida por John Farrar. Fue incluida en el álbum “TOTALLY HOT” y lanzada como single en Noviembre de 1978, llegando al N° 3 en USA, según Billboard. Además fue N° 2 en Canadá, N° 4 en UK y en el U.S. Billboard Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks, N° 5 en el Canadian Hot Adult Contemporany Tracks y Bélgica, N° 8 en Nueva Zelanda y N° 9 en Australia. Han transcurrido 35 años de esta canción y permanece en el recuerdo de quienes la disfrutamos en aquel verano de 1979.

2.-  DEEPER THAN THE NIGHT (Olivia Newton-John).-  Meses después del éxito alcanzado por el hit “A Little More Love”, el siguiente nuevo tema en escucharse en las radios fue “Deeper Than The Night”. En lo personal, esta canción me gustó mucho más que su antecesora por su buen ritmo y la impecable interpretación de Olivia, con un sonido musical más agresivo. El tema fue escrito por Tom Snow y Johnny Vastano y producido por John Farrar, siendo lanzado como single en USA, llegando al N° 11 en USA, según Billboard y N° 4  en el USA Adult Contemporary Charts.

Este ha sido el décimo octavo segmento musical de 1979. Espero que este par de buenas canciones hayan sido de su agrado y como siempre, los espero con sus visitas y comentarios.
