Estamos en el tercer martes del mes de Mayo, mes de
aniversario del blog, y es momento de presentarte el segmento musical de 1986,
hace 30 años, cuando quien escribe contaba con 23 años. Para el día de hoy, he
querido escoger para ti dos buenas canciones de la legendaria banda The Rolling
Stones.
1.- HARLEM
SHUFFLE (The Rolling Stones).- Luego del album “UNDERCOVER” de 1983, Mick Jagger lanzó su álbum
solista “SHE’S THE BOSS” en 1985 y ello generó especulaciones sobre los futuros
planes de la banda. Pero en 1986 sacaron un nuevo álbum titulado “DIRTY WORK” y
como adelanto, el primer tema que se dio a conocer fue “Harlem Shuffle”. Recuerdo que la escuché y ví por primera vez este
tema, fue en el Grammy 1986, cuando le dieron un Grammy especial a la banda por
su trayectoria y pasaron el video del tema. Y era un buen tema R & B, con
bastante ritmo y con un video muy bien realizado. La canción fue escrita por Bob
Relf y Earl Nelson y originalmente grabada por el dúo Bob & Earl en 1963.
En 1986 fue grabada por los Stones y producida por Steve Lillywhite y The
Glimmer Twins. Fue lanzada como single el 28 de Febrero de 1986, llegando al N°
5 en USA, según Billboard, y al N° 13 en UK. Además fue N° 1 en Nueva Zelanda,
N° 2 en el USA Album Rock Tracks, N° 4 en Bélgica, N° 5 en Canadá y Holanda, N°
6 en Australia y Noruega, N° 7 en Italia y Finlandia, N° 8 en Irlanda, N° 10 en
Suiza, N° 11 en Alemania y Suecia, N° 13 en Austria y N° 28 en Francia. El tema
contó con la participación de Bobby Womack en los coros y fue el primer cover
que los Stones lanzaron como single de un nuevo álbum en estudio desde 1965. 30
años después, es perfecta la ocasión para disfrutar de este buen tema y de un
gran video. Disfrútala.

2.- ONE HIT (TO
THE BODY) (The Rolling Stones).- Luego de “Harlem Shuffle”, el siguiente paso fue lanzar el
single “One Hit (To The Body)”, un
tema bien rockero con buenos riffs de guitarra y bastante ritmo. Y recuerdo que
algo que llamó la atención fue el video y particularmente, la escena en que
Jagger y Richards se enfrentan como un intento de pelea, lo cual alimentó las
especulaciones que las cosas no podrían ir bien entre Jagger y Richards. Y
también contribuyó a ello, el hecho que los Stones no salieran de gira para
promocionar el álbum, porque Jagger no quería. El tema fue escrito por Mick
Jagger, Keith Richards y Ron Wood –aunque
quienes más contribuyeron fueron Richards y Wood- y producido por Steve
Lillywhite y The Glimmer Twins. Fue lanzado como single el 9 de Mayo de 1986,
llegando al N° 28 en USA, según Billboard. Además fue N° 3 en el USA Album Rock
Tracks y N° 80 en UK. EL tema contó con la participación de Jimmy Page en el
solo de guitarra, que fue resultado de una corta sesión de grabación entre Page
y Wood, luego del pedido de page de escuchar lo que la banda estaba trabajando.
Finalmente, el video clip del tema fue dirigido por Russell Mulcahy –quien dirigió “Highlander” y varios videos
de QUEEN. Han pasado ya 35 años y vale la pena escuchar esta canción que
está totalmente olvidada en las radios. Disfrútala.
